Afternoon Tea in the Cotswolds
A tradition is born
The tradition of taking in the afternoon tea dates back to the 18th Century when one of Queen Victoria’s ladies-in-waiting, Anna Stanhope (the Duchess of Bedford) complained of a sinking feeling about 4 ‘o’clock. To revive herself, the Duchess had her servants bring her a pot of tea and a few breadstuffs. She soon began inviting her friends to join her for her additional meal in her room at Belvior Castle and this has become a British institution.
We firmly believe that afternoon tea is one of the joys of life, and one that is made to be shared. We are delighted to bring you the freshest, homemade scones, sandwiches and cakes – all served, of course, with a piping hot pot of your favourite blend. Make it a celebration and add a glass of fizz!
Served on selected days from 2pm – 5pm, the hotel’s lounge and restaurant serves a delicious range of classic tea-time treats, including sandwiches and a selection of our team’s favourite home-made sweet treats to both visitors and residents alike. Alternatively enjoy our tranquil terrace with panoramic views of the Cotswolds.
